Teenage footballer Nacho Barbera dies on pitch ‘after suffering cardiac arrest’
TEENAGE footballer Nacho Barbera died on the pitch after suffering a cardiac arrest, according to reports in Spain.
The UD Alzira player – who was playing for 13-14 age group – was playing against CD Esport Base Ontinyent when the shocking scenes occurred.
One report says Barbera, who “suddenly” fell ill, was taken to a hospital but attempts to save his life were unsuccessful.
It is believed the kid had shown no signs of a heart condition prior to his tragic death.
He had been training earlier in the week.
The club, based in Valencia, said all games scheduled for the rest of the weekend had been cancelled.
A post from the side on Twitter said: “UD Alzira is in mourning.”
